At Formal Dress Shops we support the plus-size movement because every size is just as beautiful than the next. It is not new to us that debates about the term “plus size” have been making headlines, as photo-shopped body images come under more and more criticism. Lane Bryant is the latest brand to add to the controversy.

Victoria's Secret "Perfect Body" Campaign

The popular fashion brand, known for its stylish plus sized clothing, is calling out Victoria’s Secret with its new #ImNoAngel lingerie campaign. The main ad features Ashley Graham, Marquita Pring, Candice Huffine, Victoria Lee, Justine Legault, and Elly Mayday, all well-known plus-sized models. This is a direct contrast to Victoria’s Secret, who hires women that are said to be too skinny.

Formal Dress Shops - Lane Bryant - Imnoangel campaign

Victoria’s Secret found itself in hot water last year with its “Perfect Body” campaign featuring ten perfectly toned “angels” in lingerie. Tyra Banks, Gisele Bundchen, Heidi Klum, and Miranda Kerr just a few of the big name supermodels who have posed as angels over the years. The “Perfect Body” ad was criticized for being too unrealistic and for representing unattainable body images.

#ImNoAngel

“The #ImNoAngel hashtag was created as a headline provoking all to come together in redefining the ideals of sexy,” reads Lane Bryant’s Monday press release, “[we have] hopes of igniting a significant revolution.” The company is encouraging women to post images of themselves in front of a mirror with #ImNoAngel written in lipstick

At Formal Dress Shops, we offer all of our gorgeous gowns in plus-sizes because we believe that every body image is beautiful.
